Vertical Habitats Suspended In Glass Test Tubes by Rosa de Jong

Amsterdam-based artist Rosa De Jong’s latest project Micro Matter is composed of vertical dwellings in glass test tubes. The sculptures feature carefully constructed habitats made with natural elements.

De Jong carefully manufactures a series of homes, ranging from an ultra-modern skyscraper nestled on a cloud to a shabby tent perched on top of a boulder, which defy gravity.

The structures encased in the glass symbolize isolation. The metaphor of isolation ideally protects Jong’s ecosystems from being contaminated by the outside; therefore keeping its environment intact by excluding anything that does not match her demand for uniformity.

She assures the eyes of the audience are not distracted by anything other than her homes which seem to pop up from the levitating clumps of earth inside her glass test tubes.

Rosa de Jong’s scientific approach to Micro Matter is a unique display of precision, nature and architecture working together harmoniously.
